Helping You Preserve Your Memories...

Northern Colorado Crematory was founded in 1982 by Ed Sunderlin and Rick Adels. It was started to offer a direct cremation service that was dignified and at an affordable price. Until this time, cremation was only offered at a funeral establishment along with other services. We wanted to offer cremation with or without a memorial service. Since we both are firm believers in cremation, and wish to be cremated, who better to offer this service?

It is our goal that everyone is treated with the utmost dignity in death as well as life.

Northern Colorado Crematory was founded to make things easier to deal with in the event of a death. We require two documents be filled out for our records and legal documents. First is an authorization signed by next of kin, giving us authority to cremate. Next is the personal data form. This gives us the information to fill out a death certificate. After this is filled out, we then can have the attending physician or coroner sign as the cause of death. This is then filed with the county health department. We are then given a permit to go ahead with the cremation. An optional piece of information is an obituary work sheet. This enables the family to compile in chronological order the events of your life, and it lists your survivors. Obituaries are very important for genealogy research. We then submit this to the local paper. This is included in the basic cremation price.

What is cremation?
Cremation is an ancient practice that dates back as far as the Stone Age. Archeological evidence points to the origin of cremation during this period in Eastern Europe and the Near East.

Today, the concept of cremation and the advancement in EPA-approved, high tech cremation units, and memorial inurnment is accepted as a meaningful alternative to ground interments for humans.

Cremation is a process whereby the human body is consumed through intense heat and reduced to calcium remains called cremains. The cremains are then pulverized to a fine powder for memorialization.

Where is the crematory? And why just a crematory?
Northern Colorado Crematory, Inc. is located downtown in the historical district of Greeley. The facility houses the offices, viewing rooms, committal room, arrangement room, and Reflectory (a multi purpose room for memorial services).
